BA3 Breathing Apparatus Wearer

Intended for

Suitable for all persons required to wear breathing apparatus within an industrial environment. This course IS NOT a fire fighting or craft skills course.

Legislation covering RPE
Selection of suitable & approved RPE
Pre-use inspection & donning of escape breathing apparatus
Pre-use inspection & donning of entry breathing apparatus
Pre-use inspection & donning of airline breathing apparatus
Removal & after use inspection / stowage of apparatus
Safe systems of work / communication & control / rapid deployment
Supervision of wearers in an industrial environment
Manning levels for response teams
Restricted movement & obscured vision exercises in BA galleries intended to represent a ‘beyond worst case scenario’ for breathing apparatus usage
External exercises allowing wearer teams to carry out spill control operations, line breaking, leak detection or other investigative work

Entry requirements

No prior training for two day course
Must have attended basic donning and start up training prior to attending one day course
Half day or one day refresher courses if previously attended two day course
Assessment method Delegates are continuously assessed over two days in a variety of different modules which progress from theory and bench work to detailed practical wearing exercises.

Dependent on the course options selected, certification of competency is issued to delegates who successfully complete both the practical wearer sessions and a written examination paper.

This is a ‘pass or fail’ course with full assessments

Course duration Course options (client responsibility to identify correct session)

Two day initial training session for new wearers

One day basic course or refresher training session assuming wearers already carry out regular pre-use & donning exercises and can pass a pre-course assessment

Half day module to cover basic pre-use inspection, monthly COSHH inspection and certification, donning & start up on a single type of apparatus. This is the minimum training offered & relies on delegates undertaking additional craft based training after the module

IT IS VITAL THAT THE SITE IDENTIFIES THE EXACT COURSE DURATION & STYLE OF APPARATUS THEIR DELEGATES WILL BE DEPLOYING AS CERTIFICATION COVERS NAMED APPARATUS ONLY

Certification valid for 3 years subject to formal recorded practise sessions at least six monthly
